Serondella is wonderful!! - stevieboy
Posted on 21/06/2007 13:26:10
We went to Serondella on Honeymoon on the 28th May 2007 and we had never been on Safari before and didn't know what to expect - there wasn't a single thing that I wished could have been better. The staff were friendly and attentive - the food was wonderful - the rooms were much more luxurious than I was expecting for this kind of holiday and the game drives were spectacular!!

Food first - now - it wasn't Michelin star, it was delicious, honest home cooking - sometimes the combinations weren't to my taste but on the whole, the food was wonderful and there was plenty of it!! My wife absolutely loved the quiches they made for High Tea and we even tried Biltong - a kind of dried seasoned beef - locally produced - really addictive with your sundowner drinks!

Game drives next - these were amazing - we saw all the big 5 plus everything else I could have possibly wanted to see!! Our Ranger was knowledgable, good with people, thoughtful and seemed as excited as we were to be seeing these wonders - which was really nice!! When my wife spotted a cheetah eating an impala on one of the watering holes that you can see from the lodge, he came running over and you could tell how pleased he was - he went and fetched all the other guests so that they could see too!! The tracker too really knew what he was doing and he spotted us a leopard which I was dying to see!!

Service was brilliant - we had booked a balloon safari but the weather was a little windy when we were there and it never happened - this was through another company locally but we always felt thouroughly informed - and the little touches like a nice bottle of bubbly and a nice soapy bath waiting for us on our last night was just lovely!! And the barman's stories about the animals were often hilarious and very charming. One was that the warthog's tail always sticks up when it is running and that's because it is an aerial and someone is remote controlling them.

All in all - absolutely brilliant holiday and we want to go back for our anniversary next year!! Maybe go here for a week and then a week in Cape Town to see the Penguins!!

Tips
If it is May or June - wrap up warm first thing in the evening and last thing at night on the drives, it is very cold!!
Tips aren't compulsory but you should probably allow about GBP40 a day for all the staff
Don't worry about being frightened on the drives - I don't think I felt unsafe once on the trip
The lodge provides a SA power adaptor and insect repellent
